This 2020 global pandemic has had me thinking about how much I value being an entrepreneur.

I love many aspects about having been an entrepreneur (on and off since 1990):

1. the variety of client interactions and business opportunities

2. the element of embracing change and being a change agent

3. the capacity to be autonomous and independent

4. the opportunity to demonstrate professional and intellectual expertise

5. the capacity to be a role model

6. the ability to provide personalized service to clients

7. to create and monetize services and content

8. to explore and experience avenues to be creative and passionate about the arts

9. to make the time to devote to one’s interests

10. to be a credible consultant in one’s field

Incidentally, I also treasure that I was able to balance parenting with work during our daughter’s childhood years (she is now in her 20's). I also value and cannot say enough about my husband’s continual support, encouragement and assistance that continues to this day!

I am proud to be from an entrepreneurial family with both of my parents as entrepreneurs, as well as my late paternal grandfather and great grandfather, who also ran businesses. I have been an entrepreneur on and off since 1990, as I transitioned after 12+ years as a military nurse with diversified experience (clinical practice, management, teaching) as well as afterwards, in research and consulting.

A combination of my family entrepreneurial history, as well as my military and civilian geographical and professional role changes prepared me to be an entrepreneur. Throughout the years, I have been fortunate to work as a consultant in several roles: PR/Marketing, Media Relations, Writing, Public Speaking, and Health Care.

Each client brings unique challenges and a road map of their product or service, goals and ultimately success with our collaboration.

Do you have any entrepreneurs in your family? What type of industries or service areas are/were they a part of? Are there any stories you’d like to share about entrepreneurship?

I am eager to continue this conversation with entrepreneurs, whether current, past or budding in their roles!

All the best to you and your entrepreneurship endeavors!
